🔌The New USB-C of AI
Every other post right now is about some new AI model that just dropped.
It's always something bigger and better.
I'll be honest, I've covered a lot of them.
Scroll through old issues of the newsletter and you'll see plenty of times I shared what i found, the craziest new tech, how predictions shape momentum, etc.
But what no one is saying out loud is this:
The model is not the hard part anymore.
It's everything that sits around the model.
The memory that survives when the chat ends.
The rules that stop it from doing something stupid while you sleep.
The software harness that makes the model work (like the ChatGPT app and Claude Code, etc)
And right now, a massive shift is happening in how we handle that memory. It wasn't announced with a flashy keynote. It just quietly became the standard.
Today we're looking at why SKILL.md and new specs are becoming the USB-C of AI agents, and what that means for how you use AI.
📂 Write Once, Run Anywhere
A tiny specification published by Anthropic in December 2025 has become the universal language for teaching AI agents what to do.
Key Facts
- ⏱️ Rapid Adoption - In just 12 weeks, over 20 agent products (including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google) adopted the SKILL.md format
- 💸 The Cost of Forgetting - If you open Claude 10 times a day and spend 3 minutes re-establishing context, that's 200 hours a year wasted
- 📉 The Stateless Trap - Gartner predicts 40% of agentic projects will fail by 2027, primarily because nobody builds the memory layer underneath
Here is the basic problem.
You open Claude or ChatGPT.
- You teach it your business.
- Explain your tone.
- Walk it through your weird file naming system.
- Spend twenty minutes loading files.
- Work with ideas
- Get what you're looking for.
Then you close the tab.
The next morning you come back and it's forgotten it all.
THIS. IS. THE. TRAP.
Every session starts from zero, which means every session costs you time you already spent yesterday.
It's a genius with amnesia.
The old solution was to create a massive document and dump everything into the chat window on every request.
But loading too much context degrades the model's effectiveness.
It gets confused and costs more money. 🤑
Then in December 2025, Anthropic opened the Agent Skills specification as a public standard. And it's beautifully simple.
A Skill is just a folder containing a SKILL.md file.
It has a name and a description. It can also include scripts, references, code, and assets.
At startup, agents load only the names and descriptions of your installed skills.
When you ask the agent to perform a task, it reads those descriptions and loads only the relevant skill into context.
It's a routing layer built on natural language matching.
But here what makes this a massive deal.
By March 2026, OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and at least 25 other agent products had shipped compatible implementations.
You can write a skill once, and it works across all these different tools without modification.
This is highly unusual.
Most AI customization is locked to a single platform.
🔌 Connecting the Dots with MCP
I watched MCP (Model Context Protocol) do this exact same thing 14 months earlier.
Anthropic publishes a minimal spec, opens it, and waits.
Competitors grumble and adopt.
If Agent Skills are about what an agent knows how to do, MCP is about how an agent connects to the outside world.
And I actually just built this into QuickSign.
If you use AI to write contracts, you know the annoying part.
The AI writes a great proposal.
Then you have to copy it, paste it into a doc, format it, export a PDF, open your e-sign tool, upload it, and send it.
That's wasted time.
So I added an MCP integration to QuickSign.
I talk a lot about building now, refining later – jumping on the unique opportunity in history we have RIGHT. NOW.
And I've been holding myself to it too.
I built and shipped QuickSign Pro's first build in a weekend to solve a problem I was facing – one that I knew many other business owners faced too.
Now, I'm refining it to offer more of what you need, using the new standard. With this update, you tell Claude: "Push this consulting agreement to QuickSign."
The MCP connection acts like a bridge.
Claude pushes the document directly into your QuickSign workspace as a formatted PDF. You just click the link, review it, and hit send.
The AI does the writing, the MCP bridge handles the transfer, and QuickSign handles the signature.
Nothing gets sent without your approval. The AI just does the heavy lifting.
That's the power of these new standards and why it's so crucial we iterate fast when we see the opportunities.
Marketplaces are forming.
People are packaging skills as downloadable files for code review, security audits, and deployment workflows.
This is what AI infrastructure actually looks like now.
Your memory, your skills, your rules. These are the things that compound.
- The model you can swap.
- The interface you can swap.
What stays, and what actually makes your agent better over time, is the stuff YOU own.
👉 I have something for you. Because I believe in the power of these Skills advancements.
If you run any kind of business, you've probably felt the friction of trying to teach AI how you work like we talked about above.
You spend hours writing prompts, only to have the AI spit back something that sounds like a generic chatbot.
AKA “AI SLOP” 🫠
Your AI already has the engine, it's just missing the operating system.
That's why I built the Creator AI Skills Stack.
It's a set of interactive Claude skills you install once and use forever. No login, no platform, no monthly fee. You own them.
Here is what is inside the pack:
- 🗣️ Voice Builder - Your complete voice architecture in 30 minutes. Your AI stops sounding like a chatbot and starts sounding like you.
- ⚙️ Workflow Mapper - A phased approach to taking messy processes and training AI. This is a Skills factory line, so AI knows how your business actually runs.
- 📝 Content Operator - Create content in your voice every week. Drafts of posts, emails, newsletters. Your voice, not chatbot voice
- 🛑 Decision Filter - Evaluate any AI tool or investment in 5 questions. Stops you from wasting time on noise.
Included Bonuses:
- ✅ My Operator Toolkit - The exact AI tools I use for my biggest clients.
- 📲 7-Day Content Kickstart - Your first week of content mapped and ready to produce.
If you already ran the Creator AI Scorecard I mentioned the past few weeks, perfect. Feed the Skills Stack your scorecard file and it builds on top of it.
Your business context and voice snapshot become the foundation.

Stop re-explaining yourself to Claude and build assets that compound.
P.S. right now I'm building in a track to my VIP days that will launch and train AN ENTIRE AGENTIC SERVICE in a day. Because more people are applying and asking for this than ever before. Naturally - what used to take weeks - now is no longer about time - it's about your outcome.
I only take 2 max per month right now. Apply here: https://vip.jimcarter.me/apply
