🤯 I Showed One Thing
You told yourself this summer would be different.
More time with the kids or your friends.
Longer weekends.
A Friday afternoon where you actually close the laptop before 6pm.
You had a whole picture in your head of what slowing down would look like.
And somehow it's August, and you're still running at the same pace, maybe faster.
The space you thought you were creating just got filled with more things to do, and now you're looking at the end of summer wondering where the season went.
That feeling is worth paying attention to, but not feeling bad about - I promise.
Because the people who are actually getting time back right now are not the ones who worked harder or built more complex systems, flows, or “things”.
They are the ones who stopped overcomplicating the tools they already have.
💭 The Overthinking Problem
The pursuit of the perfect AI setup is quietly becoming a productivity killer.
Key Facts
- 📉 The Complexity Trap - The more elaborate the system, the more it needs you to keep it running.
- 🏃 The Speed Illusion - AI speeds up tasks, and most people just fill that saved time with more tasks.
- 🧩 The Missing Link - The biggest wins are sitting in the simplest connections, not the most sophisticated builds.
There is a theory I keep seeing play out with builders, founders, and operators who are serious about AI.
They see the potential.
So, they try to build everything at once.
They string together five apps, write custom automations, and spend more time building the system than doing the actual work it was supposed to replace.
The irony is brutal.
You adopted AI to get time back, and now you have a new full-time job maintaining the AI setup.
I was at a mastermind last week, and my mentor asked me to teach an AI session. I could have walked them through complex workflows or multi-step automations.
Instead, I showed them one thing first.
I showed them how to connect the tools they already use directly into ChatGPT and Claude and start using skills before anything else.
The energy in the room completely shifted.
People who had been using AI for months said it was the first time it felt like the AI was actually working WITH them instead of them working FOR the AI.
Because now the AI could see their files, their projects, their actual work, without them copying and pasting anything and follow directions.
That is the move most people are skipping.
You don't need to build a custom app.
You don't even need to write a single line of code.
You just need to turn on the connectors that are already sitting inside ChatGPT and Claude, waiting. Then run your first process and feel the magic.
👩💻 The Setup
→ In ChatGPT (paid plans):
OpenAI recently moved their integrations into a cleaner setup.
Here is the path:
- Open Settings and go to Integrations in the left bar.
- Open Plugins and find the app you want, like Google Drive, OneDrive, or SharePoint.
- Click Connect and follow the login steps.
That's it.
Now you can open a chat and say "find my Q3 planning doc and pull out the three biggest open questions."
ChatGPT goes and gets it.
Easy peasy.
→ In Claude (all plans):
Anthropic built this into the chat interface directly.
- Click the "+" button in the lower left corner of your chat.
- Hover over Connectors and select Manage connectors.
- Browse the directory and click Connect on whatever you want, Google Drive, Slack, Linear, and more.
Once it is connected, Claude brings that app into the conversation on its own when it fits what you are asking.
You do not even have to name it every time.
It just knows.
Five minutes of setup. Hours back every week.
Done ✅
As a bonus, you should be starting to work with Skill as well. And if you don't know where to start, grab this free diagnostic 🔗 I released to help you get started.
👉 Sit With This
- What is the one task you do every week that is just moving information from one place to another?
- If your AI could see your actual files and conversations right now, what would you ask it first?
- And if you are still spending more time setting up AI than using it, what would it mean to flip that around?
The builders who are winning with AI right now are not the ones with the most sophisticated stacks.
They are the ones who asked a simpler question first.
What is the one thing I keep doing manually that AI could handle if it could see my stuff?
That question will take you further than any automation tutorial.
Most people are trying to build a rocket when what they needed was a better car.
The car gets you where you are going.
The rocket just takes longer to build and has more ways to blow up.
It's the same with AI.
Think about where you are spinning your wheels, the tasks that feel like they should be faster by now, the work you keep doing that has nothing to do with the thing you are actually good at.
That is where the connectors come in.
I use these daily.
And they give me back precious time I use not to [always] fill with more work, but try to be present more with my girls, walk the dog and just enjoy this wonderful season.
💙 Join Other Leaders, Builders & Founders
You don't have to try and figure this all out alone.
I run a private AI Slack community called CTRL+ALT+BUILD, where I work through exactly this kind of thing with builders, founders, and operators who are serious about using AI to get their time back.
Inside, you get monthly live office hours with me directly, exclusive access to the askJC3 Digital Mind App (my AI built to answer your specific business questions), and the Creator AI Skills Stack, a paid toolkit for running your business with AI.
The people in this community are not all trying to become AI engineers.
They are trying to run better businesses with less friction, and they are doing it together.
The door is open.
Annual is $997. Quarterly is $347. Either way, you get access to the community and the askJC3 app the same day you join.
P.S. VIP day spots are OPEN for Aug & Sept! Check out this link to apply. I will likely not have much open for September and minimal for October, so now is the time to book.
