It can read the page you’re on, understand context from your other open tabs, and give you help without making you leave what you’re doing.
I’ve been experimenting with Agentic browsing on Comet recently (Anthropic’s newest browser) and I’m so ready for this.
This week I had three vendor sites, two review pages, and a pricing spreadsheet open.
Instead of bouncing around, I would click the sparkle and asked Gemini to compare them.
Seconds later I’ll have pricing, reviews, and even red flags.
It’s all about time savings and handling the grunt work for you.
Ok, great and all but why is this such a big deal?
Simple.
Chrome has nearly 70% of the GLOBAL browser market share at nearly 3.5 Billion Monthly Active Users.
If a fraction of a percent lean in to AI a little more each month, we’re talking huge adoption and habit changes by the tens and hundreds of millions a month.
📍 What You Can Do Today
Here are a few ways you can actually use this right now once this is available to you (rolling out to all English language Chrome desktop users now):
For Research Tasks
Open multiple sources, ask Gemini to summarize the key points, and it will pull information together and show you patterns you might miss when reading separately.
For Long Videos
Watching a 45-minute tutorial? Ask Gemini to find the exact moment when they explain the feature you need. It’ll give you the timestamp and a summary.
For Email and Scheduling
Highlight a thread full of discussion about meeting times. Ask Gemini to propose three time slots that work for everyone and draft a confirmation email.
For Safety
Chrome now flags suspicious pop-ups and scam attempts automatically. Did your password show up in a breach? You can ask Gemini to change it and make it strong with one click.

In the next few months, Gemini will start handling multi-step tasks.
Think about ordering supplies, booking appointments, or filling out forms.

And here’s the important part: anything involving money or sending messages will need your approval. The AI suggests and prepares. You review and approve.
Imagine telling Chrome: “Order more printer paper from our usual supplier.” It would go to the site, add items to the cart, fill in shipping details, then stop and wait for you to review and confirm the purchase.
That’s the vision.
❌ Don’t Make This Mistake
A few things I’d avoid as you test this out…
- Don’t trust summaries blindly. Gemini is good, but it can miss nuance or misunderstand context. Always check the source material for important decisions.
- Don’t let it read sensitive tabs. If you have your bank account or payroll system open, close those tabs before using Gemini. It doesn’t store the data, but why risk it?
- Don’t skip the human review. Especially for anything customer facing. Let Gemini draft, but always read and adjust before sending.
- Don’t assume everyone knows the rules. Make your guidelines clear and share them with everyone who uses Chrome in your organization.
👌 Start Small, Learn Fast
Here’s my suggestion for this week:
Pick one repetitive task that involves multiple websites or documents.
Maybe it’s comparing prices, researching topics, or scheduling meetings. Use Gemini to help with just that one task for a few days.
Pay attention to where it saves time and where it needs more guidance. Share what you learn with your team. Build from there.
This is going to be a fun new era of browsing.
