⏲️ The Countdown to Superintelligence
Imagine the smartest person you know.
Got them in mind?
Good.
Now picture them with perfect recall of every book ever written, every YouTube tutorial ever filmed, and every business case study ever documented.
Oh, and they think exponentially faster than normal, never get tired, and are available for you, 24/7.
**That’s superintelligence. **
Not a chatbot that writes emails. Not a tool that makes spreadsheets. A genuine thinking machine that outperforms humans at basically everything.
Back in 2014, philosopher Nick Bostrom wrote about this possibility.
Most people thought he was being dramatic.
However, Sam Altman says we’ve “passed the event horizon”.
And Mark Zuckerberg just bet $65 billion that he can put one of these minds in your pocket.
The wild part? They might both be right.
🧠 Superintelligence Is Coming Faster Than You Think
Here’s what’s at stake when AI surpasses human intelligence.
Key Facts
-
📈 Superintelligence Defined: It’s an intellect that surpasses the best human minds in almost everything.
-
🪜 The AI Ladder: We currently have Artificial Narrow Intelligence. Next, we aim for Artificial General Intelligence, and finally, Artificial Superintelligence.
-
⏳ Timeframe: Experts predict these systems could arrive between 2025 and 2050 (big range, I know, and that’s the scary part).
Everyone wants to know when AI will outsmart us.
**It’s a wild idea to think that in our lifetime, we (humans) will no longer be the smartest beings on the planet. **
Computers will outpace us.
I wake up each day now, wondering if today will be the day we get lapped by tech. And it’s both humbling and a little wild to think how lucky we are to live in this time of incredible change.
Let me walk you through what I’ve learned. It might change how you think about the next five years.
I spent last week calling friends in tech, checking research papers, and trying to pin down when this actually happens.
Here’s what the experts think:
-
Elon Musk = 2026. That’s next year.
-
Dario Amodei from Anthropic = 2027.
-
Sam Altman = 2032 or 2033.
-
The academic consensus? Somewhere between 2040 and 2050.
If the optimists are right, you have maybe 24 months before the game completely changes.
If the academics are right, you get a bit more breathing room.
**But either way, this is happening in your lifetime. **
Not your kids’… yours.
But here’s where things get uncomfortable.
We’re spending about $40 billion building these systems while roughly only $50 million figuring out how to control them. That’s an 800-to-1 ratio. It’s like building a Formula One car and only using pocket change on the brakes.
Have you heard of the “paperclip problem”?
It’s a famous thought experiment in AI safety that illustrates how a superintelligent AI, if given the wrong objective, could pursue it in destructive ways, even if its goal seems harmless
But we’re past a thought experiment now.
Without proper alignment, a superintelligent system optimizes for its goals, not yours.
OpenAI’s Superalignment team thinks we have about four years after reaching artificial general intelligence to solve the control problem.
Four years to figure out the hardest puzzle in computer science.
No pressure, right?
So What Should You Actually Do?
I know this sounds overwhelming. Trust me, I’ve been in tech for 25 years, and this is the biggest shift I’ve seen. But you’re not powerless here.
Let me give you a few steps you can take today to feel good about this:
1️⃣ Run a thought experiment with your team. Write this prompt on a whiteboard: “If every employee had a genius-level AI assistant by 2030, what parts of our business would disappear? What would grow 10x?”
2️⃣** Start cleaning your data now.** Whether you go with Altman’s vision or Zuckerberg’s, your AI is only as good as the information you feed it. Bad data today means bad decisions tomorrow.
3️⃣** Create your AI governance playbook.** Big word, yes, but an important one. Who can use these tools? What data can they access? How do you audit their decisions? Write the rules before you need them.
4️⃣** Join the conversation.** I’m hosting discussions about this in our Slack community every week. Real builders, real questions, real solutions. Join us 🔗
👀 Did you see this?
Anthropic recently announced that Claude Sonnet 4 now handles an incredible 1 million tokens when using the API. This is a huge upgrade!

Let’s get lucky.. This one feels a little gimmicky, I’ll admit, but 2 minutes in it actually helped me realize something so simple I hadn’t seen before. Give this a run on your favorite LLM and see what it comes up with.

### Starting Prompt
Start our first session now by asking me about my current situation and what areas of my life I’d most like to see more favorable outcomes in.
✌️ Let’s Talk
We’re living through the most interesting time in human history.
Yes, it’s uncertain. Yes, it’s a* little* scary.
But it’s also full of possibility.
The future isn’t something that happens to us. It’s something we build together.
One decision, one conversation, one experiment at a time.
